Boulanger first penned this beautiful ballad as "
Avant de Mourir" ("Before Dying") in 1926, the year my Mom was born. Jimmy Kennedy added English lyrics in '39, the same year that Glenn Miller took it to #2 and The Ink Spots to #3. By far the most popular version is by The Platters which topped the charts in '65.
